Italian expert states potential of sustainable development between Italy, China

(MENAFN) Despite mounting climate and economic hurdles, there remains significant room for enhanced cooperation between China and Italy in the realm of sustainable development, according to an Italian academic.

"China's competitive advantage in sustainable industries can help fill the technology gap that Italy faces," said Andrea Appolloni, a management professor at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. "Stronger ties could bring real solutions, especially in key sectors such as electric vehicles, smart grids and clean manufacturing."

These comments came amid growing climate-related challenges in Italy. A recent surge in high temperatures has placed considerable stress on the nation's agriculture, energy systems, and infrastructure. The heatwave has sparked renewed calls for Italy to accelerate its shift toward environmentally friendly practices.

Appolloni pointed out that Italy's efforts toward sustainability are being slowed by a combination of factors, including increased internal costs, low levels of investment, and a general economic downturn across Europe. These issues, he noted, are reducing demand for exports and shifting focus away from green initiatives.

According to reports, China’s impressive growth in areas such as renewable energy, eco-friendly vehicles, and sustainable technologies over the last ten years makes it a valuable ally in Italy’s environmental transition.
